Why add RGA capability?
Dedicated leak Detectors are tuned to Helium at mass 4 and are generally incapable of working with any other 'search gas'.
While Helium is an excellent choice for leak checking, (it's low molecular weight and size render it capable of permeating just about anything!), it may not always be available. Often, during manufacturing, a component may be charged with or subjected to another gas making that a preferential search gas choice for some reason. Conventional Leak Detectors are of no use in these situations.
Additionally, in the commercial world, there are many reasons for checking the 'quality' of vacuum which goes beyond just looking for an air leak. Read the RGA page in the AERO VAC files for more background.
The addition of the RGA option with it's clear screen displays, (see left), mass selectivity and gain management functions turn the POLARIS into a very powerful vacuum diagnostic tool.
Many customers find these are capabilities they cannot afford to live without!
