A correctly designed and constructed manifold is of fundamental importance to system operation. Leak tight operation to vacuum standards may be required even if the manifold does not operate under vacuum.
Often used to introduce sample to a system or control precise volumes for expansion / calibration purposes, the manifold must endure changing conditions without compromise. Leak tight operation may be required by the nature of the sample as with caustic or toxic materials.
Frequently, controlled heating is used to control the sample preventing condensation and consequent system failure or error.
