Choosing a Calibrated Leak

Reliable sniffing-type leak detection requires frequent calibration of the entire leak testing setup by testing and calibrating at the sniffer probe itself. VTI offers a wide range of Calibrated Leak Standards for sniffer detector calibration to meet your particular requirements. Designed specifically for sniffer calibration, VTI’s leak standards feature a “point source” design for the helium or refrigerant flow to avoid erroneous readings.

Models are available for helium, refrigerants, and virtually all other gases, as well as for a wide range of leak rates. Fixed-leak-rate calibrators are available as well as “variable-rate” models which have a 10-to-1 adjustable range. Models are available with Teflon-permeation leak elements or crimped stainless-steel capillary leak elements, the choice depending on the gas, leak rate, and use environment.

ALL GASES CALIBRATORS

Choose the CL Model when:

You need a Calibrator in the leak rate ranges of 10-3 to 10-7.
You want a Calibrator that is bakeable for UHV use.
You want a Calibrator that is unbreakable.
Your facility has wide temperature fluctuations so that the very low temperature coefficient (0.2% / °C) is a significant benefit.

Choose the CLO Model when:

You need a Calibrator in the leak rate ranges of 10-1 to 10-6.
You want a Calibrator that is bakeable for UHV use.
You want a Calibrator that is unbreakable.
Your facility has wide temperature fluctuations so that the very low temperature coefficient (0.2% / °C) is a significant benefit.

Choose the CLOT Model when:

You need a Calibrator similar to the CLO but with a Teflon permeation membrane that will not plug as easily.

Choose the CLOR Model when:

You need a Calibrator similar to the CLO but with an O-ring seal, making it interchangeable and replaceable if it becomes plugged.

Choose the PSO Model when:

You need a Calibrator in the leak rate ranges of 10-2 to 10-6.
You want essentially no dead volume (no pressure burst upon opening).
You want a Calibrator with low depletion rates.
You want a Calibrator with long term stability.

HELIUM CALIBRATORS

Choose the GPP Model when:

You need a Calibrator in the leak rate ranges of 10-6 to 10-8 , especially 10-7 to 10-8.
You want the glass-permeation leak element that will not clog.
It will not be subjected to rough handling that would break the glass leak element.
Your facility does not have wide temperature fluctuations, so you are not inconvenienced by the 4% / °C temperature coefficient.

Choose the GPPT Model when:

You need a Calibrator in the leak rate ranges of 10-4 to 10-8.
You want the Teflon-permeation leak element that will not clog.
You want a Calibrator that is unbreakable.
Your facility does not have wide temperature fluctuations, so you are not inconvenienced by the 3% / °C temperature coefficient.

Choose the GPC Model when:

You need a leak rate in the range of 10-3 to 10-6 and larger, especially 10-5 and larger.
Your clean environment or large leak rates avoids clogging of the capillary leak element.
You want a Calibrator that is unbreakable.
Your facility has wide temperature fluctuations so that the very low temperature coefficient (0.2% / °C) is a significant benefit.

Choose the CLP Model when:

You need a calibrator in the leak rate ranges of 10-6 to 10-12, especially 10-9 to 10-12.
You want the glass-permeation leak element that will not clog.
It will not be subjected to rough handling that would break the glass leak element.
You are not inconvenienced by the 4% / °C temperature coefficient.
You need a Model to use as a Transfer Standard for calibrating other Test Leaks.
You need a Premium model with an all-metal valve that can be used for critical calibrations and can be baked for UHV applications.

Choose the FSLT Model when:

You want to calibrate at a single, fixed leak rate.
You want the Calibrator to operate for a year or more without refilling.
You want the Teflon™-permeation leak element that will not clog.

Choose the FSLC Model when:

You want to calibrate at a single, fixed leak rate.
You want the Calibrator to operate for a year or more without refilling.
Your relatively clean plant/lab will not clog the capillary leak element.

Choose the VSLT Model when:

You want to be able to vary the rate over its 6:1 leak-rate range.
You can easily refill the reservoir with helium gas periodically.
You want the Teflon™-permeation leak element that will not clog.

Choose the VSLC Model when:

You want to be able to vary the rate over its 10:1 leak rate range.
You can easily refill the reservoir with clean Helium periodically.
Your relatively clean plant/lab will not clog the capillary leak element.

REFRIGERANT CALIBRATORS

Choose the RLS Model when:

You need to test to an exact leak rate or want to be able to vary the leak rate over the 10:1 range.
You want the Calibrator to operate for a year or longer without a refill.

Choose the FSLTV Model when:

You can easily refill the reservoir with refrigerant vapor periodically.
You need to specify and test to a specific leak rate.

Choose the FSLTL Model when:

You want the Calibrator to operate for years without the need to refill.
You can test within a broad range of leak rates if you know the specific rate.

Choose the RSC Model when:

You need to test only with R134a.
You want the Calibrator to operate for years without the need to refill.
You can test within a broad range of leak rates if you know the specific rate.
